Tennis: Chilean Lama Loses to Brazilian Thiago Monteiro in Santiago 2023

The 150th ranked ATP player prevailed with a score of 6-3 and 6-4 at the Central Court of the National Stadium.

Wednesday, October 25, 2023.- At the Central Court of the Tennis Sports Center, the second match of the Pan American tournament featured Chilean Gonzalo Lama and Brazilian Thiago Monteiro.

The victory went to the representative from Brazil, with a score of 6-3 and 6-4, in one hour and 41 minutes of play, in an atmosphere marked by the cheering from the supporters of both countries.

Thiago Monteiro (ranked 150th in the ATP) mentioned, "This was a great match against a quality opponent like Lama. I was very focused, and that's how I pulled off this match, which gives me more confidence for what's ahead."

The Brazilian added that his expectations in the Santiago 2023 tournament are "to qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games (the finalists will do so) in this wonderful Pan American competition."

On the other hand, Gonzalo Lama (world-ranked 424th) stated, "I feel that the match was very even, and I believe I deserved to go to a third set. Unfortunately, due to some tactical errors, which at this level are not forgiven, I lost."
