Wednesday, October 25, 2023.- The United States continues its dominant performance in female's soccer at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. The American team, who previously defeated Bolivia 6-0 in their debut, secured a 3-1 victory over Costa Rica on this Wednesday at the Elías Figueroa Stadium in Valparaíso, in the Group B of the tournament.
The North American team earned three points thanks to goals from Kathleen Collins (10'), Claire Hutton (72'), and Emeri Adames (76'). Meanwhile, Costa Rica's lone goal came from Tanisha Fonseca (34').
Claire Hutton, the captain of the United States, commented after the victory, saying, "Costa Rica turned out to be a strong, well-prepared team. They had a strong defense and challenged us a lot in the first half. Fortunately, we played the game well and took the win home.
"I'm here to help the team. We have a good playing system. Our coach is great and gives us the opportunity, which we take. Anyone can score, and today it was my turn. We're here to work together," she concluded.
With this result, the U.S. team solidified their position as the Group B leader with six points and advanced to the semifinals to compete for a medal in Santiago 2023. Meanwhile, Costa Rica earned one point and must defeat Bolivia in their last match to keep their medal chances alive.
The other match of this second round in Group B will be played this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. between Bolivia and Argentina at the Estadio Elías Figueroa in Valparaíso. In Group A, the action begins at 3:00 p.m. with Paraguay facing Jamaica and later at 8:0 p.m. with Chile playing against Mexico, both matches taking place at the Estadio Sausalito in Viña del Mar.
