Female basketball: Colombia debuts with solid triumph against Venezuela

In a game that was closely contested during the first half, the Colombian team managed to take the lead from the third quarter onwards and secure their first victory at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

Wednesday, October 25, 2023.- On Wednesday, the female's basketball competition continued at Polideportivo 1 at Estadio Nacional, with a matchup between Venezuela and Colombia in Group B. The latter secured a clear victory with a score of 73-57.

The match began with the Colombian team showing strength, winning the first quarter with a 23-15 lead over a struggling Venezuelan side. However, the tables turned at the second quarter, and the Venezuelan team outscored Colombia 17-12.

Starting from the third quarter, Colombia exhibited much more solidity than their opponents, closing the final two quarters with scores of 12-6 and 26-19.

Yuliany Paz was the standout player for Colombia, contributing 27 points and eight rebounds, followed by Manuela Ríos with 13 points and two rebounds. On the Venezuelan side, Yosimar Corrales shone with 12 points and seven rebounds.

This result places Colombia at the top of their group alongside Brazil, which had previously defeated Mexico 72-54. In the afternoon, Group A matches will take place, featuring Cuba against Argentina at 5:30 p.m, and Chile against Puerto Rico at 8:00 p.m.
