Wednesday, October 25, 2023.- Mexican players seem to be insatiable at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago. This morning, Paola Longoria and Montserrat Mejía put on another flawless performance, securing medals for Mexico in the team event of this discipline at the Pan American Games.
Mejía gave up just nine points (out of 40) to the Canadian Michéle Mejía (3-0), while only Peke Longoria added some suspense to the contest by going to the fifth set against Frederique Lambert. In this way, they can add new medals to their collection of gold and silver in singles and bronze in mixed doubles.
However, they still have a way to go and will face the United States this afternoon, who eliminated Bolivia. Erika Manilla defeated Yazmine Sabja (3-0), and Michelle Key did the same against Angélica Barrios (3-2).
The other semifinal will feature Argentina against the Team of Independent Athletes. The South American team defeated the Dominican Republic (Maria José Vargas against Maria Céspedes and Natalia Méndez against Merynanyelly Delgado), while the Central American team defeated their neighbors from Costa Rica: María Renee Rodríguez against Maricruz Ortiz and Gabriela Martínez against Jimena Gómez.
"Now it's time to mentally prepare ourselves again, as if it were the first day. Tough matches are coming, but we have to give our best for these medals," said the coach of the Independent Athletes, Christian Wer.
