Wednesday, October 25, 2023.- Chile concluded its participation in baseball at the 2023 Pan American Games in Cerrillos with a defeat, losing convincingly by a score of 7-0 to Venezuela in the match for seventh place.
The local team quickly saw the Venezuelan squad take the lead in the first inning, scoring four runs that left Chile with no response, resulting in a 4-0 lead for Venezuela.
The standout player of the morning was Eduardo Díaz, who contributed three of Venezuela's seven runs.
The other runs were scored by Engelb Vielma, Edgar Durán, Osmán Marval, and Yonathan Mendonza, sealing a 7-0 victory that placed their team in seventh place at these Pan American Games.
Kaleeb Campo, the coach of the Chilean team, stated after the loss, "We came here so that the boys could see the level of baseball played in America. We played with a group of young men who train in their spare time because they study and work. We faced professional athletes and countries that are at the top of baseball."
"Our participation was about gaining experience and understanding the level. I believe we achieved that. We improved throughout the tournament and demonstrated that at times, we could compete, gradually getting better," he added.
To conclude, Campo emphasized, "There are many technical aspects that Chile needs to improve. Baseball is a tactical sport, where you need to know how to move and in each game situation, figure out where to go. That's where we need to work."
On Wednesday afternoon, starting at 3:00 p.m., the Super Round stage will begin in the quest for a medal with the match between Brazil and Panama, while the match for fifth place will be played on Thursday (3:30 p.m.) between Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
