Denisse Bravo advances to semi-finals, secures bronze for Chile

The boxer from Lontué won a hard-fought decision against the Canadian Scarleth Delgado, who is ranked 5th in the world, guaranteeing at least a bronze medal for Chile.

Tuesday, october 24nd, 2023.- The boxer Denisse Bravo defeated the Canadian Scarleth Delgado by a score of 3-2, securing a place in the semifinals in the 54-kilogram category and assuring a bronze medal for Chile.

In a contested match, the local boxer managed to secure victory in a somewhat disputed decision. Out of the five judges, two saw the North American fighter winning in all three rounds, while the other two judges awarded the victory to Bravo by 2 rounds to 1. Since the cards are counted individually, the win and the passage to the semifinals went to the athlete from Lontué.

"I'm happy; I've secured the bronze, and now we're going all out. It was a tough fight, and defeating the world number five is a great triumph," commented Denisse Bravo. Throughout the bout, she received unwavering support from the crowd at the Centro de Entrenamiento Olímpico.

"I'm grateful for the support of all the people. This has been a very challenging process, and I had a very close fight today. Either of us could have won, but I left everything in the ring, and I feel that I'm representing all my teammates. I want to thank my family; they deserve all of this," added an emotional Denisse Bravo.

On Thursday, October 26, at 11:00 a.m. local time, the Chilean boxer will compete in the semifinal against the Brazilian Tatiana de Jesús. If she wins this match, she will qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics and advance to the gold medal contest.
