Tuesday, october 24nd, 2023.- The Argentinian female's handball team had no major problems in defeating Puerto Rico by a convincing score of 46-17 in a match from Group A. They are now harboring hopes of winning the gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago.
From the very start, "La Garra," as the Argentinian team is known, displayed their absolute dominance and went into halftime with a lead of 21-9, with Lucia Dalle Crode and Luciana Mendoza as the top scorers.
In the second half, their control on the court was maintained at the Gimnasio Polideportivo de Viña del Mar, resulting in the most decisive victory of the day.
"I am very pleased with how the match turned out, but we are already thinking about tomorrow's match against Chile. We are seeking the team's identity and want it to reach the final stages in the best shape. We played very well against Puerto Rico, but that game is over now, and we need to focus on what's ahead," commented Eduardo Gallardo, the coach of the Argentinian team.
In the previous Pan American Games, the Argentinian team won the silver medal after losing in the final to Brazil. Therefore, they are determined to change the course of history in Santiago 2023 and aim to secure the gold.
Argentina and Costa Rica are in the same group as Chile and Canada, who will face off later (at 8:00 p.m. local time). The top two teams from each group advance to the final stage, where they compete for medals.
The handball competition at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 provides qualification slots for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
