Pan American surfing kicks off with longboard, shortboard, and SUP

Pan American Games surfing debuted on Tuesday at Playa Punta de Lobos, located just over 200 kilometers from Santiago in the Region de O'Higgins.

Tuesday, october 24nd, 2023.- The longboard qualifiers for both male and female kicked off early in the day. After three heats in the men's division, the following surfers advanced: Carlos Bahía (Brazil), Julián Schweizer (Uruguay), Benoit Clemente (Canada), Rafael Cortez (Chile), Cole Robbins (United States), and Martín Pérez (Argentina).

In the women's division, the qualifiers included María Reyes (Peru), Agostina Pellizzari (Argentina), Chloe Calmon (Brazil), Sindy Portillo (El Salvador), Olivia Stokes (Canada), and Inés Beisso (Uruguay).

The second part of the day featured the shortboard qualifiers. After eight heats in the women's division, the following surfers advanced: Leilani McGonagle (Costa Rica), Silvana Lima (Brazil), Chelsea Tuach (Barbados), Estela López (Chile), Tatiana Weston (Brazil), Sanoa Dempfle-Olin (Canada), Candelaria Resano (Nicaragua), and Daniella Rosas (Peru).

In the men's shortboard qualifiers, the following surfers secured their spot in the next round: Miguel Tudela (Peru), Krystian Kymerson (Brazil), Leandro Usuna (Argentina), Lucca Messinas (Peru), Alan Creeland (Mexico), Jean Carlos González (Panama), Óscar Urbina (Costa Rica), and Francisco Bellorin (Venezuela).

The day concluded with the Stand Up Paddle (SUP) competition. In the men's division, the Brazilian Luiz Diniz (15.50) won the first heat, followed by the Canadian Finn Spencer (10.93) and the Chilean Gabriel Salazar (6.73).


In the second heat, the American Zane Schweitzer (11.80) emerged victorious, with the Puerto Rican Max Torres (10.13) and the Argentine Franco Faccin (8.03) following.

The final heat was dominated by the Mexican Felipe Rodríguez (11.40), who outperformed the Peruvian Tamil Martino (8.24) and the Costa Rican José Ruiz (6.70).

In the women's SUP division, the heat winners were the Argentine Lucía Cosoleto (13.33), the Brazilian Aline Adisaka (10.13), and the Peruvian Vania Torres (7.63).
