Tuesday, october 24nd, 2023.- Colombia achieved a significant 6-2 victory over Venezuela, securing their place in the final stage of baseball, where they will aim to at least match their best historical performance, dating back to the 1971 Pan American Games in Bogotá when they finished in third place.
The Colombian team took an early lead, establishing a 5-0 advantage in the first inning, thanks to the excellent performance of Dilson Herrera, who managed to drive in three runs.
Venezuela attempted to level the playing field in the second inning, scoring a point that seemed to provide hope. However, their opponent regained control of the game and increased their lead in the same inning.
In the fifth inning, Venezuela managed to narrow the gap, but it wasn't enough to threaten Colombia's qualification.
Next up is the Super Round, which begins on Wednesday and also includes Brazil, Panama, and Mexico.
The first match will be played at 3:00 p.m. between Brazil and Panama, while on Thursday at 9:30 a.m., Mexico will face Colombia.
In this stage, the criteria for classification are as follows: the number of games won, the average of runs scored (in favor), and runs conceded (against) in case of a tie, with the average of runs per game as the final criterion.
On Wednesday, there will also be a match for the seventh place, pitting Chile against Venezuela starting at 9:30 a.m. On Thursday at 3:00 p.m., Cuba and the Dominican Republic will face each other in the battle for fifth place.
The last day of the final round will be on Friday, with matches at 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The teams finishing third and fourth will compete for the bronze on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., while the two top teams will vie for the gold at 3:00 p.m.
