Tuesday, october 24nd, 2023.- The Mexican duo composed of Rodrigo Montoya and Javier Mar won the gold in the men's doubles racquetball final at the Pan American Games, defeating Canada's Samuel Murray and Coby Iwaasa 3-1.
Despite starting with a loss in the first set (6-11), the Mexicans made a comeback in the second set (11-7) and sealed the victory with two close and contested rounds (12-10 and 12-10).
"I'm very happy; this is my third gold at the Pan American Games. We still have the team event to go, and we hope to continue adding more medals. Javier and I have a strong connection. We've been friends and teammates for many years, representing our country. It's not easy, but year by year, we've been improving our game," commented Rodrigo Montoya after the win.
With this victory, the Mexican team added two gold medals and one silver in racquetball on this day, as earlier, Paola Longorio defeated her compatriot Montserrat Mejia in the women's singles final.
The North American racquetball medal tally is completed with two bronze medals in women's doubles and mixed doubles.
Tomorrow, the Mexican team will begin the team competition, where they have the opportunity to continue accumulating medals.
