Brazil defeated Cuba and advanced as the leader to the Super Round of baseball

The Brazilian team secured a 4-2 victory, finishing at the top of Group A in the decisive phase. In the afternoon, Colombia and Venezuela will determine the other contender in the fight for the gold.

Tuesday, October 24, 2023.- Brazil continued its impressive performance in baseball at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023, following a 4-2 victory over Cuba in their final match in Group B at Parque Bicentenario de Cerrillos.

After a scoreless first inning, Brazil began to shape their victory in the second with a run from Fabio Murakam. Later, in the fifth inning, Víctor Hugo Mascai, Paulo Orlando, and Murakam contributed to the score.

Ramón Ito, the manager of the Brazilian team, stated after the game, "It has been a good group stage, and the idea is to continue like this to compete for a medal. The upcoming opponents will be strong, with a rich baseball tradition, something Brazil doesn't have. I appreciate the support of the fans who came in large numbers."

Player Salomon Koba added, "We feel happy and focused on the medal. This was a very important victory for us to qualify in first place. Our preparation has been crucial. We've been training since March, so we are ready to face these kinds of teams."

With this victory, Brazil advanced as the leader of Group B to the Super Round to contend for a medal. Panama and Mexico have already qualified for the Super Round from Group A.

The second qualifier from Group B will be determined this afternoon, starting at 3:00 p.m., in the match between Colombia and Venezuela. In case of a tie in wins between the competitors, the qualifier will be determined based on the total runs scored during the tournament and an average of runs per game between them.
