Superwomen! Chileans achieve fourth gold in the Pan-American rowing

The Abraham sisters, along with Magdalena Nannig and Victoria Hostetter, secured the first place in the female's Coxless Four A final and added the fourth gold medal in Santiago 2023.

Tuesday, October 24, 2023.-The Laguna Grande in San Pedro de La Paz added another achievement for Chile in the Pan American Games, this time with the national coxless four team's victory in the A final, which gave the host country its fourth gold in Santiago 2023. Additionally, they matched the record from Lima 2019.

Sisters Antonia and Melita Abraham, along with Magdalena Nannig and Victoria Hostetter, clinched the top-to-bottom race at Laguna Grande in San Pedro de La Paz in a remarkable performance that successfully withstood the late 500-meter surge from the United States.

Cristina Pretto, Isabela Darvin, Lauren Miller, and Hannah Payter closed the gap, but the Chilean team conserved energy for the final sprint, which they completed with a time of 6:40.83 for the two thousand meters. This was 3.58 seconds ahead of the North American team and 3.76 seconds ahead of Mexico, who secured the bronze medal.

In this way, rowing adds its second gold of the day and fourth in the entire competition, a remarkable performance that has been consistent in rowing, temporarily placing the host nation in the sixth position on the medal tally.
