United States dominates in climbing, and Grupper secures a spot in Paris 2024

Confirming what he had done in the semifinals, the 26-year-old North American won the gold in the bouldering and difficulty discipline, where he shared the podium with other compatriots.

Monday, october 23nd, 2023.- After his performance in the semifinals on Saturday, Jesse Grupper emerged as the clear favorite for victory in the bouldering and difficulty discipline of sport climbing, a favoritism he confirmed in the finals on Monday at the Muros de Escalada Parque Cerrillos center.

The 26-year-old from Upper Montclair secured the gold medal with a significant lead over his compatriot Sean Bailey (161.5 points to 141.6). Another American, Zachary Galla, completed the podium with 138.5 units.

Grupper made the difference in the lead discipline, where he scored 92.1 points, 35 more than his closest pursuer, Sean Bailey. This allowed him to recover from his performance in the bouldering, where he only scored 69.4.

With this victory, Grupper also secured a spot at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

While the United States dominated the medals, Canada took the consolation of occupying the next three positions with Sean McColl (132.6 points), Oscar Baudrand (87.4), and Victor Baudrand (83.1).

Rounding out the rankings were the Chilean Benjamín Vargas, who finished seventh (58), and the Mexican Thor Villegas (53.1).
