Monday, october 23nd, 2023.- Mexico was the dominant force in modern pentathlon at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023, just as the women did earlier on Monday. They secured the gold and silver in the discipline.
Emiliano Hernandez, with a total score of 1,534, won the gold medal, while his compatriot Duilio Carrillo took home the silver with 1,513 points.
Both Mexican representatives achieved the highest scores in the disciplines (equestrian, fencing, swimming, and laser-run) and were consistently competing for the medals.
The bronze medal went to the Ecuadorian athlete Andrés Torres, who scored 1,487 points, and he also secured a spot at the 2024 Paris Olympics, as the Mexican athletes had already qualified for the five-ring event.
On the other hand, Chile's Esteban Bustos couldn't replicate his performance from the previous Pan American Games in Lima 2019 when he won a silver medal. This time, he finished in tenth place with 1,461 points.
