Baseball: Dominican Republic defeats Chile 12-2, to compete for 5th place

Monday, october 23nd, 2023.- Despite a resounding 12-2 victory over Chile in the last match of Group B, the Dominican Republic will have to settle for playing in the fifth-place game at the 2023 Pan American Games.

The Dominican squad quickly took the lead on the scoreboard, and by the end of the first inning, they were already ahead 6-0 The host team tried to counter the strong hits from their batters with powerful pitches, but it wasn't enough.

Team Chile, at least, managed to score two runs in the competition. In their debut, they lost 16-0 to Mexico, and then fell 6-0 to Panama. This achievement was celebrated with joy by the audience at the Centro de Béisbol y Sóftbo in Cerrillos.

In the third inning, Chile scored its first run. The crowd celebrated the milestone, but the celebration was short-lived as the opponent increased the lead to 7-1. The next inning continued the strategic approach of the Dominican Republic, inducing the opponent's error, although Chile managed to score another run, making it 10-2.

In the fifth and final inning, the Dominican Republic secured a lead of more than 10 points (12-2), leading to the end of the game.

As a result, the Caribbean team will play for fifth place on Thursday against the third-place team from Group B, while Chile will compete on Wednesday for the seventh-place match.

In the earlier game, Panama defeated Mexico 8-2, securing both teams' spots in the Super Round that will determine the medalists.
