Monday, october 23nd, 2023.- Chilean tennis player Gonzalo Lama (408th in the ATP ranking) made a resounding and solid debut in male tennis at the 2023 Pan American Games. He defeated Paraguayan Hernando Escurra (ranked 1,047th) with a double 6-1 victory.
The local athlete dominated from the very first game, and his opponent never felt comfortable on the clay court of the Court Central del Estadio Nacional. Escurra succumbed to the Chilean representative in one hour and seven minutes.
In the first set, Lama broke his opponent's serve on four occasions and had a 100% service effectiveness, allowing him to easily win 6-1.
The same score was repeated in the second set, where Lama broke Escurra's serve right at the beginning to seal his victory and advance to the next round of Santiago 2023.
In the round of 16, the Chilean will face the winner of the match to be played on Tuesday between Costa Rican Rodrigo Crespo (ranked 1,880th) and the fourth-seeded Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (ranked 119th).
