Monday, october 23nd, 2023.- Mexico continues its winning streak in taekwondo. They secured their sixth gold medal in the sport, thanks to Carlos Sansores, who defeated the representative from the United States, Jonathan Healy, with a score of 2-1.
In an intense final (1-1, 3-5, and 5-3), the Mexican managed to surpass his opponent in the +80-kilogram category, bringing his country's sixth gold medal and establishing themselves as the dominant force in the sport at Santiago 2023.
The bronze medals were awarded to Argentinian Eduardo Alves, who defeated Ecuador's Julio Arroyo 2-0, and Canadian Marc-André Bergeron, who won 2-1 against Colombia's Luis Soto, both in the same category.
In another bout of the day, American Madelynn Gorman won the gold medal in the +67-kilogram category by defeating Colombian Gloria Mosquera 2-1.
Gorman faced a tough challenge, as the first round ended in a 1-1 tie, and she lost 3-2 in the second. However, she prevailed with a 12-10 score in the third round, securing the lead needed to claim the gold.
The bronze medals in this category were awarded to Haitian Aliyah Shipman and Mexican Victoria Heredia.
