Oliver Sisters Win Gold and Silver for Mexico in Modern Pentathlon

Mayan secured the victory and was followed by Catherine. The bronze was awarded to Sophia Hernandez from the team of independent athletes.

Monday, October 23rd.- In the presence of their proud mother among the spectators, sisters Mayan and Catherine Oliver gave Mexico gold and silver, respectively, in the women's modern pentathlon competition held at Escuela Militar in Santiago. This event also awards qualification spots for the Paris 2024 Olympics. 

Mayan Oliver took first place by scoring 1,423 points in the combined disciplines of fencing, swimming, horseback riding, shooting, and running. Her sister, Catherine, secured second place with 1,407 points, while the bronze medal went to Sophia Hernandez from the team of independent athletes. 

Chilean athlete María José Bravo finished 16th out of the 18 finalists, earning 986 points. 

Behind the three medalists were Jessica Davies from the United States with 1,370 points, Tamara Vega from Mexico with 1,356, Paula Valencia from the team of independent athletes, Phaelen French from the United States, and Mariana Arceo from Mexico, all three with 1,343 points. 

This afternoon, the men's final will be held, featuring 18 participants, including three Mexicans, three Brazilians, and the Chileans Esteban Bustos and Martín Gajardo.
