Beach Volleyball: Canadian World Champion Team Defeats Paraguay

Melissa Humana-Paredes, of Chilean origin, is a key player in the North American duo.

Monday, October 23rd.- In two comfortable sets, the Canadian pair of Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson defeated the Paraguayan team of Erika Mongelos and Michele Valiente with scores of 21-13 and 21-8 in just 34 minutes of play. This match took place as the first game of the day in women's beach volleyball at Parque Peñalolén. 

The standout player in this match was Melissa Humana-Paredes, a 31-year-old with Chilean roots. 

Melissa previously won a gold medal in the 2019 Beach Volleyball World Championship held in Hamburg, Germany, where she partnered with Sarah Pavan. 

On Sunday, Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson also won in two sets against the Dominican team of Julibeth Payano and Bethania Almanzar, with scores of 21-11 and 21-11. 

A day earlier, in their debut at Santiago 2023, the Canadian duo defeated the Uruguayan pair of Sol Acuña and María Biancchi in two sets, with scores of 21-11 and 21-6.
