Sunday, October 22nd.- Ecuador's first gold medal at the 2023 Pan American Games came this Sunday when weightlifter Angie Palacios lived up to her significant favoritism in the 71-kilogram category.
The current record holder in the Pan American region, achieved on June 14th in Havana, Cuba, was the best at the Gimnasio Chimkowe in the Peñalolén district. She lifted 118 kilograms in the snatch and 135 kilograms in the clean and jerk, totaling 253 kilograms.
The second place also went to a South American, as Colombian weightlifter Mari Sánchez celebrated her silver medal, lifting 112 kilograms in the snatch, 134 kilograms in the clean and jerk, for a total of 246 kilograms.
The third place on the podium was secured by the American weightlifter Meredith Alwine, who won the bronze with 103 kilograms in the snatch, 136 kilograms in the clean and jerk, and a total of 239 kilograms.
In the 71-kilogram category, Chilean weightlifter Karina Torres finished in seventh place, lifting 86 kilograms in the snatch, 110 kilograms in the clean and jerk, for a total of 196 kilograms.
