Canada, United States, and Mexico wins gold medals in taekwondo

The discipline awarded three new medals on this Sunday, in a day dominated by North American athletes

Sunday, October 22nd.- Taekwondo awarded three new gold medals on Sunday, during which Canada, the United States, and Mexico added another gold medal to their tally. 

Canadian Mi-Young Park defeated Brazilian Maria Lima 2-1 in the -57kg category. 

Park, who is of Canadian nationality with a Chilean mother, stated after the competition, "It is an honor to represent and win for Canada. It was a victory completely different from the previous ones, as I have Chilean relatives, and it is an achievement to have victories in my mother's homeland. I also feel Chilean." 

"I was surprised by the support from the audience; it made me feel like a Chilean, and I am happy to win in these lands where they support athletes a lot," she added. 

In the -80kg men's category, American Carl Nickolas defeated Colombian flag bearer Miguel Trejos 2-0, while in the -67kg women's category, Mexican Leslie Soltero won 2-0 against Haitian Ava Soon Lee.
