Sunday, october 22nd, 2023.- The United States, one of the favorite teams to win a medal in women's soccer at Santiago 2023, had a comfortable debut by defeating Bolivia 6-0 in a match valid for Group B, which was played at the Estadio Sausalito in Viña del Mar, a city located 120 kilometers from Santiago.
The performance of the North Americans was solid from start to finish. Already in the fourth minute, midfielder Ava Mc Donald, the standout of the match, opened the scoring, reflecting the dominance that the team led by Carrie Kveton would impose, despite playing with a U-20 squad.
At 19', forward Amalia Villarreal increased the lead for the Americans.
McDonald scored her second goal, and her team's third, at 22', while at 33 minutes, forward Emeri Adames made it 4-0 in a match where the Bolivians did not pose a threat to Sonoma Kasica's goal in the first half.
In the second half, the United States maintained their superiority. Top scorer Villarreal scored her second personal goal, and her team's fifth, at 58', while at 68 minutes, McDonald sealed the match with her third personal goal.
In the final 20 minutes, the North Americans slowed down the pace and only made the Bolivian goalkeeper Alba Salazar shine, who, despite the defeat, was one of the best players on her team.
In their second Group B match, the United States will face Costa Rica on Wednesday, October 25, at 1:00 p.m. local time at the Estadio Elias Figueroa in Valparaíso, while Bolivia will take on Argentina at 6:00 p.m. local time in the same venue.
