Mexico opens female's football with a victory over Jamaica at Santiago 2023

The Mexican female's national team triumphed 7-0 against the Jamaican squad at the Estadio Elias Figueroa in Valparaíso.

Sunday, october 22nd, 2023.- The passion for football began with enthusiasm at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023, where the Mexican female's national team displayed their strength at the Estadio Elías Figueroa in Valparaíso, and they secured a resounding 7-0 victory over their Jamaican counterparts.

The goals for the winning team were scored by María Sánchez (12' and 75'), Karla Nieto (35'), Kiana Palacios (42'), Diana Ordoñez (58'), Alicia Cervantes (68'), and Verónica Corral (85').

The victorious team's coach, Pedro López, stated, "The pace of the game has been good. We are excited about what can happen in this tournament, and this result reinforces that. Now, we need to focus on the match against Chile, which, for me, is one of the top favorites."

"It's a motivation to compete for the gold. Saying it's an obligation would diminish the achievement because this title has never been won. These Games are an opportunity to continue growing because it's an international showcase that shows us our level," he added.

At the end of his statement, the Mexican coach affirmed, "We are very pleased with the quality of the fields, both in the stadiums and training fields. We hope they continue this way because it's a special event for the participating countries."

María Sánchez, the captain of the Mexican female's football team, mentioned, "We wanted to start on the right foot, and winning in this manner was very important. We want to bring the gold to Mexico. Everything has gone very well at these Pan American Games."

With this victory, Mexico took the lead in Group A of the female's football tournament at Santiago 2023 with three points and a goal difference of +7. Their next match will be against the host country, Chile, who will make their debut against Paraguay this Sunday in the city of Valparaíso.
