Sunday, october 22nd, 2023.- Brazil took a significant step toward qualifying for the Pan American baseball semifinals in Santiago 2023 by staging a remarkable comeback against Colombia, a direct rival in Group B. The final score was 8-7, and the game even required two extra innings to secure the victory.
The Colombian team was leading the match 4-0 at the end of the fifth inning, thanks to a home run by Carlos Arroyo that brought in runs with the bases loaded. However, Brazil managed to react in time, scoring three runs in the sixth inning and one in the seventh to force extra innings.
In the eighth inning, both teams scored two runs, leading to a ninth inning where Brazil prevailed 2-1 and sealed the victory.
As a result, Brazil joins Panama and Mexico in the competition's semifinals. Nevertheless, everything is contingent on the performance of Cuba and Venezuela in a match scheduled for Sunday at 3:00 p.m local time.
It's worth noting that the top two from each group will advance to the super round to compete for a medal, while the third-placed teams will compete for fifth place, and the fourth-placed teams for seventh place in the tournament.
