The Olympic champion in this discipline won her series, but her time was surpassed by the Americans Kelly Pash and Olivia Bray, as well as the Colombian Valentina Becerra. Nevertheless, she remains the top favorite for the gold.

Sunday, october 22nd, 2023.- Canadian Maggie MacNeil, a triple Olympic medalist, made her second appearance at the pool of Centro Acuático of Estadio Nacional on Sunday and qualified in fourth place for the female's 100-meter butterfly final, an event in which she won gold in Tokyo 2020 and is the top favorite to win gold in Santiago 2023.

MacNeil won her series with a time of 59.73 seconds, but in the overall times, she was surpassed by the Americans Kelly Pash (58.34) and Olivia Bray (58.84), as well as the Colombian Valentina Becerra (59.70).

The other swimmers who qualified for the final were Ecuador's Anicka Delgado (59.79), Canada's Katerine Savard (59.87), and the Brazilians Clarissa Rodrigues (1:00.02) and Giovanna Tomanik (1:00.19).

Canada also qualified for the mixed 4x100 freestyle relay final, without MacNeil in the team. However, this doesn't mean she won't be in the final in the evening, as she was not part of the female's 4x100 freestyle relay qualifiers yesterday, but she was part of the quartet that won gold.

In the other morning session qualifications, none of the Chilean swimmers managed to reach the final.

Inés Marín finished ninth in the female's 200m freestyle, Gabriel Araya was twentieth in the male's 200m freestyle, Montserrat Spielmann was 17th in the female’s 100m butterfly, Benjamín Schnapp was 12th in the male's 100m butterfly, Sarah Szklaruk was 15th in the female's 200m backstroke, Edhy Vargas was 14th in the male's 200m backstroke, and in the mixed 4x100 freestyle relay, Manuel Osorio, Vicente Villanueva, Florencia Orpis, and Arantza Salazar finished last.
