Mexico's Citlali Moscote storms to the finish to win gold in the Marathon

The athlete won the 42.195 kilometer race with a time of 2:27:12, beating Argentina's Florencia Borelli by just a few seconds. Peru's Gladys Tejeda finished third.

Sunday, October 22nd., 2023- The female's marathon opened the day on Sunday in Santiago 2023 with an exciting race that had the Mexican Citlali Moscote taking the gold medal with a time of 2:27:12.

This race had a circuit with the esplanade of Parque O'Higgins as starting and finishing point, running 42.195 kilometers through the main streets of Santiago. It started 15 minutes after the start of the male's category.

The North American managed to lead the competition after running second in most of the race. When it seemed that the Argentinian Florencia Borelli would take the first place, the Mexican athlete attacked at the end and won the competition by just a few seconds.

While Borelli closed second with a time of 2:27:29, the Peruvian Gladys Tejeda finished third, who arrived in Santiago as the Pan American champion in Lima 2019, with 2:30:39 on the clock.

This is the eighth gold medal for Mexico in Santiago 2023, which consolidates the country's second place in the medal standings and brings the total number of podiums to thirteen. The Mexican delegation is surpassed only by the United States, which leads with 20 medals (nine gold).
