Saturday, Oct 21st.- One of the exciting novelties at the Pan American Games in Santiago 2023 is the debut of sport climbing, an event taking place on the wall at Parque Cerrillos. Moreover, which also provides direct tickets to Paris 2024.
The first discipline to award medals in this sport was female's speed climbing, which started promptly at 7:00 p.m. in the southwestern part of the Chilean capital.
The top contenders to make it to the podium were the representatives of the United States, and they delivered on expectations. Piper Kelly and Emma Hunt reached the final.
The gold medal, and the qualification to next year's Olympic Games, went to Kelly, who won with an impeccable time of 7.52 seconds, against Hunt, who did not complete the competition after a false start and had to settle for the silver medal.
Meanwhile, there was a big surprise in the dispute for bronze, where the representative of Ecuador Andrea Rojas won with a time of 7.59 seconds, leaving empty-handed the also U.S. climber Sophia Curcio, who made a false start.
On another note, with the enthusiastic support of local fans, Chilean Anahí Riveros set a personal record with a time of 8.57 seconds in her loss in the quarter-finals against the champion, Piper Kelly.
