Saturday, Oct 21st.- The Parque Peñalolén is buzzing with excitement, as the southeast commune of the Chilean capital hosts beach volleyball, one of the most popular disciplines at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023.
The locals have high hopes in the sport of spikes, as in Lima 2019, the cousin duo of Marco and Esteban Grimalt surprisingly clinched the gold medal, and they aim to replicate that achievement.
One of the pairs looking to challenge the hosts for the medals is the Brazilian duo of George Souto and André Loyola, who had a near-perfect debut on the sands of Santiago.
The performance of the Brazilian representatives was impressive, as the numbers indicate. They defeated the El Salvador team composed of Armando Guatemala and Franklin Flores with set scores of 21-7 and 21-13 in a match that lasted just 30 minutes on Court 2 at Parque Peñalolén.
Thanks to their victory, George and André now lead the standings in Group C, which also includes the Cuban pair of Jorge Alayo and Noslen Díaz and the Colombian duo of Johan Murray and Juan Carlos Noriega.
Brazil's next match will be against Colombia, scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 22, starting at 18:30 p.m.
