Brazil and Argentina debut with victories in Group A of female volleyball

The Arena Parque O’Higgins witnessed the Brazilian team's victory with a three-set to zero score against Cuba, while Argentina won with a three-set to one score against Puerto Rico.

Sábado 21 de octubre.- The female's volleyball competitions at the Pan American Games 2023 began this Saturday at the Arena Parque O'Higgins, with Brazil and Argentina both winning their respective debuts in Group A.

The Brazilian team got things started by defeating Cuba with set scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-14, as Sabrina Machado emerged as a standout player with 14 of the team's 75 points during the match. Maiara Cristina Basso also stood out, contributing with 12 points.

On the other hand, Argentina had to wait until the fourth set to secure their victory, defeating Puerto Rico with set scores of 25-17, 25-18, 17-25, and 25-19. The standout player for the Argentine team was María De La Paz Corbalán, who contributed with 16 of the team's 86 points in the victory.

In this way, the Brazilian and Argentine teams took a significant step in Group A towards their aspirations to compete for a medal in Santiago 2023.

Action in Group B will start this Saturday evening, with Colombia facing Mexico at 5:30 p.m. and the Chilean team playing against the Dominican Republic at 8:30 p.m.

It's worth noting that the female’s volleyball competition consists of two groups, each with four teams. The top team in each group will advance to the tournament's semifinals, while the second and third-placed teams will qualify for the quarterfinals.
