Women's Mountain Biking: Canada repeats gold, Chile takes silver

Jennifer Jackson prevailed over Valentina Vidaurre, while Brazilian Raiza Goulao secured the bronze. The podium repeated the same order as the men's category.

Saturday, Oct 21st.- Canadian Jennifer Jackson clinched the gold medal in the women's mountain biking category of the Pan American Games, held on the San Carlos de Apoquindo circuit, contributing points to the Olympic ranking. The silver went to Chile's Valentina Vidaurre, and Brazilian Raiza Goulao took home the bronze.

In other words, the same order was repeated on the podium as in the men's event, with Canada, Chile, and Brazil, respectively. However, the second place of Chilean Vidaurre had a special significance, as she emulated the achievement of her brother, Cristóbal, who secured the first medal for the host country.

In the Santiago foothills, the cyclists completed six laps on the demanding circuit, which was 4 to 6 kilometers in distance with an elevation of approximately 4.2 kilometers and 160 meters per lap.

Jackson dominated the competition from the start, quickly establishing a clear lead. She finished with a time of 1.20.35, nearly three minutes faster than Vidaurre (1.23.20).

While the Chilean Team's competitor never posed a threat to the Canadian's victory, she maintained a reassuring lead over the Brazilian Goulao throughout the race, with a time of 1.24.57.

Further back were the Argentine Agustina Apaza (1.25.51), the Brazilian Karen Fernandes (1.27.00), and the Colombian Ana María Roa (1.29.03).

Both mountain biking competitions, for both men and women, were held in front of a large and supportive crowd that cheered on all the athletes.
