Saturday, Oct 21st.- Mexico continues to dominate in the baseball competition of the Pan American Games Santiago 2023. This was evident after they narrowly defeated the Dominican Republic 1-0 on Saturday at the Parque Bicentenario de Cerrillos, in a match belonging to Group A of the competition.
Randy Romero's run in the bottom of the third inning proved to be enough for the Mexican team to establish an insurmountable lead for the Dominicans, who were unable to score throughout the two and a half hours of the game.
With this victory, combined with their 16-0 win against Chile last Thursday, Mexico took a significant step towards advancing to the super round, where they will compete for a spot on the podium. The North Americans lead Group A and could finish first if they win against Panama next Monday.
On the other hand, the Dominican Republic, coming off a loss to Panama in their first game, now faces challenges in their quest for a medal with this defeat. The Central Americans will have to make the most of their chances against Chile, also on Monday in Cerrillos.
It's worth noting that the top two teams from each group will advance to the super round to contend for a medal, while the third-place teams will compete for fifth place, and the fourth-place teams for the seventh spot in the tournament.
