Female Boxing: Panamanian Bylon won with "Mano de Piedra" in the Stands

Roberto Durán, the legendary former Panamanian boxer, is currently visiting Chile and watched his compatriot in action during the qualifiers in the 75-kilogram category.

Friday, October 20, 2023.- With five matches from the round of sixteen in the female's 75-kilogram category, the boxing competition of the Pan American Games continued this Friday at the Centro de Entrenamiento Olímpico in Ñuñoa.

Among the attendees at the venue was an illustrious athlete: the former Panamanian world champion, Roberto "Mano de Piedra" Durán, who is in Chile for the Santiago 2023 Games. From the stands, he watched his compatriot Atheyna Bylon win by technical knockout in the second round against Trinidadian Eyed George.

"I'm very happy to be in Chile. We hope that Panama behaves well and gives us many satisfactions in these Pan American Games. The best professional boxers often come from amateur competitions like these, and it's necessary for young boxers to participate in these kinds of tournaments," said the boxing legend.

Durán, famous for his legendary fights with Sugar Ray Leonard in the 1980s, took the opportunity to send greetings "to my friend Martín Vargas," a historic former Chilean boxer.

In the other matches of the day, Mexican Vanessa Ortiz defeated Cuban Yakelín Estornell by unanimous decision, Canadian Tammara Thibeault won by technical knockout against Dominican Milena Jiménez, in a South American duel, Venezuelan Maryelis Yriza won by unanimous decision against Colombian Luisa Vásquez, and Brazilian Viviane dos Santos won by unanimous decision against Argentine Lorena Balbuena.
