October 20 Program: The opening ceremony will focus global attention on the Parque Estadio Nacional

Baseball and boxing will continue their competitions, while diving will make its debut at the renovated Centro Acuático.

Thursday, October 19 - After years of planning and organization, the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 will officially open this Friday, bringing together nearly 7,000 athletes from 41 countries in the continent to compete in 39 sports and 60 disciplines in the Chilean capital.

The traditional ceremony, which begins at 8:30 p.m.., includes the parade of delegations, the lighting of the cauldron, and a musical performance by the Colombian artist Sebastián Yatra, as well as the Chilean bands Los Jaivas, Los Tres, and Los Bunkers, along with the interpreters of the event's anthem, "A la cima": Anita Tijoux and Movimiento Original.

As for sports, the day will continue with the baseball group phase in Cerrillos and the preliminary rounds of boxing at the Centro de Entrenamiento Olímpico. Additionally, diving will make its debut at the renovated Centro Acuático of Parque Estadio Nacional, setting the stage for Saturday when the first medalists will be known.
