Thursday, October 19, 2023.- Puerto Rican boxer Stephanie Piñeiro defeated Venezuelan Yuliannys Álvarez by unanimous decision (5-0) in the 66-kilogram category of the Pan American boxing competition, taking place at the Centro de Entrenamiento Olímpico in the Ñuñoa commune.
Piñeiro dominated her opponent in all three rounds, and all five judges awarded her a categorical victory, easily advancing to the round of sixteen.
In the other female bout that concluded the day's fights, Dominican competitor María Moronta defeated Cuba's representative, Arianne Imbert, by technical knockout at 2 minutes and 8 seconds into the first round.
Earlier, Argentinian Lucía Pérez also won in the first round by technical knockout against Guyanese Alesha Jackman in the 66-kilogram category.
Women's boxing will continue on Friday, October 20th, with four bouts in the 75-kilogram category, starting at 11:00.
The qualifying rounds of the round of sixteen will continue until the next Monday when six fights will be held, including two for women and four for men, in the 57, 80, and 92-kilogram categories.
