Boxing competition began with a victory by the Argentinian Lucia Pérez

The South American athlete secured a technical knockout against Guyanese Alesha Jackman in the women's 66-kilogram category. Additionally, Brazilian Luiz Gabriel Do Nascimento also claimed victory in the men's 57-kilogram category.

Thursday, October 19th.- With a win by the Argentine Lucia Pérez over Guyanese Alesha Jackman in the round of sixteen of the women's 66-kilogram category, the women's boxing competition of Santiago 2023 started this Thursday at the Centro de Entrenamiento Olímpico. 

The South American boxer dominated from start to finish and won by technical knockout in the third round. In fact, this bout introduced the new scoring format in which the five judges displayed accumulated points after each round. Pérez won unanimously in the first two rounds. 

The opening day of boxing this morning also featured two first-round matches in the men's 57-kilogram category: Guyanese Keevin Allicock won by technical knockout in the second round against Panamanian Irvin Ibarguen, while Brazilian Luiz Gabriel Do Nascimento also secured a technical knockout victory in the second round against Canadian Victor Tremblay. 

The preliminary matches for both women and men will continue throughout the day at the venue located in the Ñuñoa commune. 

Pan American boxing offers 30 qualifying spots for the 2024 Paris Olympics: the top two in each category, with the exception of the women's 57 and 60-kilogram categories, where the semifinalists will also qualify.
