Wednesday, October 18 .- With a stunning victory of Mexico over Chile by 16 to 0, the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 began. The match took place at Parque Bicentenario de Cerrillos and pitted these two teams from Group A against each other in the first phase of the men's baseball competition.
Right from the beginning, the game was controlled by the Mexican team, dressed in green, securing a substantial lead of 11 runs already in the fourth inning, partly due to errors in catching the ball by the Chilean catcher in several of the pitches by the home team, who wore red uniforms.
By the end of the fifth inning, Mexico had extended their lead to 16-0, showcasing their dominance throughout the game to the point of securing a victory even with two innings left to complete the match, leaving the opponent with no scoring opportunities.
After the game, Wilmer Ríos, a pitcher for the Mexican team, expressed his joy, saying, “i'm very happy; it's good to start on the right foot, and that's what we did.” We are ready and focused for the next game, which we know won't be easy. Always positive and prepared for what's to come."
The game took place on a chilly morning at Parque Bicentenario de Cerrillos, a commune located in the southwest of Santiago, in a newly inaugurated venue for these games, and a large group of spectators arrived.
The group A will have more action on Thursday 19 at the same venue, where the teams of Panama and the Dominican Republic will face off starting at 9:30 AM.
Meanwhile, the group B will debut at 3:00 PM at the Baseball and Softball Center with a match between the national teams of Venezuela and Brazil. Group B is completed by Colombia and Cuba.
