Maggie Mac Neil shines with gold and new Pan American record in Santiago 2023

The Canadian was the fastest in the final of the 100 meters freestyle, thus adding her third gold medal in the event taking place in Chile. In the male category, the winner was the Brazilian Guilherme Santos.

Monday, october 23nd, 2023.- One of the sports that awards the most medals at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 is swimming, which is taking place at the Centro de Deportes Acuáticos of Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos.

The first final of the day on Monday in Ñuñoa was the 100 meters freestyle, where the Canadian Maggie Mac Neil made it clear that she came to dominate the multi-sport event by securing her third gold medal.

The North American athlete clinched victory in the Olympic pool with her powerful strokes, finishing with a time of 53.64, which also set a new Pan American record, surpassing the 53.83 achieved by the Bahamian Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace in Toronto 2015.

The silver medal went to Brazil, thanks to Stephanie Balduccini, who recorded a time of 54.13, while the bronze was taken by the American Catie de Loof, with a time of 54.50.

Following that, it was the men's turn in the 100 meters freestyle, where the winner was the Brazilian Guilherme Santos, with a time of 48.06.

The podium was filled with two American swimmers, as the silver was shared by Brooks Curry and Jonathan Kulow, who both clocked the same time, stopping the timer at 48.38
