In a match from Group B, the South Americans won with goals from Daniel Ruiz and Carlos Cortés. In the next game in this group, Brazil will face the United States in Valparaíso.

Monday, october 23nd, 2023.- With Colombia's victory over Honduras at the Estadio Elías Figueroa in Valparaíso, approximately 120 kilometers from Santiago, the male football competition of the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 started on Monday.

The South Americans won 2-0 in a match belonging to Group B, which also includes Brazil and the United States. The latter two will face each other at 6:00 p.m. in the same venue.

Colombia secured the victory in the first half with goals from Diego Ruiz, at 16 minutes; and Carlos Cortés, at 41'. The latter had previously played for the Chilean team Wanderers, precisely from the city of Valparaíso, so he was familiar with the field and the stadium.

The match was evenly contested, but the Colombians capitalized on their experience and never saw their victory threatened. In fact, they were always closer to scoring a third goal than the Central Americans were to equalizing.

In their upcoming matches on Thursday, Honduras will face the United States, and Colombia will play against Brazil.

In Group A, the host nation Chile will make its debut this evening (8:00 p.m.) against Mexico at the Estadio Sausalito in Viña del Mar.
