United States dominates in taekwondo reaching male and female’s finals

In the kyorugi discipline, the American team reached the final with Jonathan Healy in the +80kg male's category and Madelynn Gorman-Shore in the +67kg female's category.

Monday, October 23rd.- Taekwondo at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 continues with its competitions at the Centro de Deportes de Contacto of Estadio Nacional. In the kyorugi discipline for +80kg male and +67kg female, the United States was the big winner of the day, securing two athletes in the finals for the gold medal. 

For the male, Jonathan Healy reached the final after defeating the Colombian Luis Soto 2-0, with the same score he achieved against the Argentine Agustín Alves in the semifinals. His opponent in the decisive match will be the Mexican Carlos Sansores, who eliminated the Ecuadorian Julio Arroyo in the quarterfinals (2-0) and the Canadian Marc-andré Bergeron in the semifinals (2-1). 

In the female's category, Madelynn Gorman-Shore advanced to the final by defeating the Ecuadorian Dayana Folleco in the quarterfinals (2-0) and the Puerto Rican Crystal Weekes in the semifinals (2-0). The American will face the Colombian Gloria Mosquera, who beat the Mexican Victoria Heredia in the quarterfinals (2-0) and the Haitian Aliyah Shipman in the semifinals (2-1). 

The United States has a significant opportunity to dominate in taekwondo at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023, as they have already won four gold medals. However, Mexico also has a strong presence in the final with Sansores, aiming to secure the sixth gold medal in this discipline for their country. 

The female's final between Gorman-Shore and Mosquera is scheduled for 4:30 PM, while the males's final between Healy and Sansores will take place at 4:45 PM. In conclusion, an evening of exciting finals is coming up at the Contact Sports Center of the National Stadium.
